چکیده
In this paper we study the design and optimization of heat-integrated distillation columns (HIDiC) using a constrained Boltzmann-based estimation of distribution algorithm. The total annual cost was defined as the fitness function of the problem, and the effect of the relative volatility on the performance of the HIDiC configurations was evaluated. We analyzed a set of equimolar mixtures with relative volatility varying from 1.12 to 2.4. The designoptimization strategy implemented was executed through Matlab-Excel-Aspen Plus interface. The results showed that the best interrelation between energy savings and TAC of the HIDiC columns were obtained in the separation of mixtures with relative volatilities between 1.12 and 1.5, particularly for mixtures of isomers. As a result, energy savings from 50 to 87% were obtained for this class of mixture. At the same time, we obtained HIDiC sequences with TACs lower than that TAC of conventional columns (2–16%). Nevertheless, we found that the TAC of some HIDiC schemes resulted higher than the TAC of conventional columns (6–17%). In addition, carbon dioxide emissions released into the atmosphere were reduced in the same proportion as savings in energy required to fuel the reboilers. ã 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

DEVELOPING A NEW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE FOR DISTILLATION COLUMN SIMULATION
The simulation of distillation columns is an essential step in design, optimization, and rating. In this paper, a new procedure has been proposed for the initial estimation of column profiles based on modified Kremser’s group method for simple and/or complex columns. The effect of this initialization algorithm on simulation procedure has been studied through two examples. The results show sig...
متن کاملIDENTIFYING OPTIMAL MIXTURE PROPERTIES FOR HIDiC APPLICATION
Internally heat-integrated distillation columns (HIDiC) are a new design option to provide a sustainable separation system. Although significant energy savings can be achieved using this setup, a considerable increase in investment cost penalizes the application. One major cost driver is the compressor cost, which depends on the relative volatility of the mixture to be separated. While mixtures...

متن کاملThe Factorized Distribution Algorithm and the Minimum Relative Entropy Principle
Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDA) have been proposed as an extension of genetic algorithms. In this paper the major design issues of EDA’s are discussed using an interdisciplinary framework, the minimum relative entropy (MinRel) approximation. We assume that the function to be optimized is additively decomposed (ADF). The interaction graph GADF of the ADF is used to create exact or ap...

In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to improve the design of constrained PID controller based on convex-concave optimization. This design method is based on the optimization of a performance cost function, taking into account the stability and efficiency constraints with frequency domain analysis in which the concepts of sensitivity and complementary sensitivity has been used. It is shown, ...
